It all started in a garage back in the 90s. A British couple decided to design quality polo shirts for lady golfers in order to bring style and practicality to the golf course. A decade later, after seeing how well the small exclusive range of women's clothing was still doing they decided to sell the firm and enjoy their deserved retirement.
In 2000, One Up Golf had new ownership that would take it to another level. It was only three of us at that point, the appointed director with two permanent staff members and our first office was in The Old Forge in Castle Ashby, in rural Northamptonshire.
The business quickly grew and moved to larger premises in Castle Ashby, the number of staff multiplied and we opened our first (and only) shop which proved to be very popular.
In 2001, after just one year, we printed our first catalogue and we started expanding our range to include jumpers, trousers, accessories and much more every season.
It began to be obvious the space wasn't enough anymore and that the success required more help and dedication. That's when we relocated to Kent under new ownership, back in 2008, and since then our management team, warehouse and call centre have all been on one site. This way we managed to have a smooth operation and a strong emphasis on an informative, helpful and friendly customer service.
In April 2009 we had our very first Roadshow at Lympne Castle and in November the same year we had our first one at a Golf Club. It was Oakland Park Golf Club, in Chalfont St. Giles, Buckinghamshire. It was such a great success that it led us running between 4 and 8 shows each year at various golf clubs, some of which we returned to for many years.
Because we used to exhibit at the Weetabix Ladies Open each year, we had the chance of visiting various wonderful courses throughout the UK and Scotland. We often used to hear the ladies calling to their friends "Oh look, there's One Up!" when they saw our tented shop. We'll never forget the feeling of interacting with our first loyal customers. Unfortunately when the sponsorship of the Open changed, so did the strategy regarding exhibitors and since 2010, along with many other suppliers of ladies golf clothing, we haven’t been able to exhibit there anymore.
Since then many things changed. We opened our website and improved the range and the catalogue, but the spirit is still the same and will always be. We still love talking to customers ordering over the phone and the friendly atmosphere in the office is absolutely fantastic.
In 2017 we made the big and exciting step to rebrand as Lark Clothing, after seeing a growing demand for uplifting and stylish leisurewear. With many years of experience and a great knowledge of the clothing industry, we realised that was the right move. However, we're still using some of the same suppliers that we have been using since 2000 and definitely have the same values.
Today we are still looking for quality and style and our in house design team is constantly busy creating various collections throughout the year. This allows us to maintain our reputation for beautiful garments in even better fabrics, designed specifically for you.
In 2021 we relaunched One Up Golf to bring our ladies great quality golf wear, at even better prices. Now a family run business based in the lush green county of Herefordshire, we are always striving to deliver great customer service to all of our shoppers.
