TaylorMade launches new Kalea line for female golfers

The TaylorMade Golf Company was founded back in 1979, by a golf equipment salesman named Gary Adams. This year, for the first time in over a decade, TaylorMade have introduced a dedicated line of clubs aimed at women.

Introducing Kalea

The line, called Kalea, is made up of thirteen clubs including driver, fairway woods, rescues, irons, wedges and a putter. There is also a cart bag sold separately. TaylorMade want this new line to improve performance for female golfers at all levels, as part of their ongoing commitment to making sure that their products work for golfers of all levels and all swing types.

In recent years the company has focussed on technology made to enhance and optimise fast swing speeds; often far faster than the typical female golfer possesses. This new range is a move away from this, opening up the market to a much wider spectrum of female players. Kalea is designed to use TaylorMade’s knowledge of how the ball reacts at slower speeds to enhance how people play.

Optimising technology

According to Golf.com, the design features of the Kalea range include “optimised lofts, lower and deeper CG locations, more flexible, thinner tip shafts for improved launch angles, and slot technology in the soles for increased, and more consistent, distance.” This slot technology in particular is a long-standing TaylorMade iron innovation, allowing for the face of the club to flex and bend depending on the strike, producing a spring-like effect to deliver the absolute maximum ball speed possible.

These different technological additions are all aimed towards improving performance for slow swing speeds, providing higher ball flight and improved distance gapping. All together, the aim is to create a technical combination that maximises speed from the face and generates a lift for maximum carry payoff.

Performance developments

Tomo Bystedt, TaylorMade’s senior director of product creation, told Golf.com: "We’ve learned a great deal about product performance in the last decade, much of which was geared toward faster swing speeds.

“For us, Kalea was a great opportunity to take our learnings on slower swing speeds and bring them to market with products that provide meaningful performance for female players, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results."
