Charley Hull shares fourth place in the Women's Australian Open

England’s Charley Hull finished joint fourth place at the Women’s Australian Open last month. Despite spirited attempts by Hull, she finished just behind five time Australian champion Karrie Webb by just one stroke. The match was closely contested, with Japan’s Haru Nomura ultimately proved the victor with an impressive -16 under.

During the competition Nomura powered past both world number one Lydia Ko and Katie Webb in order to win the title. Defending champion Ko did not let her have the victory easily and kept within one stroke of Nomura for most of the game - eventually finishing 3 strokes clear of Ko.

Nomura later said that “there was no pressure” playing against the world’s number one because she said her mindset helped her remain calm. She said that: “Golf is the fight on my own. It’s not against someone else”. Nomura’s triumph means that she is the first Japanese winner of the tournament since 1974, when Chako Higuchi won at Victoria.

Hull played an impressive game, posting four birdies in Adelaide, but was unfortunately not quite able to beat Katie Webb to get into the top three. Additionally, Hull’s fellow compatriot Georgina Hall, ultimately finished joint 9th with -7 under par.

More recently, as if to add insult to injury, Hull tied 30th in the LPGA Thailand a few weeks later. She is set to play the HSBC Women's Championship in Singapore this month which may offer her another chance at golfing success.
