Lydia Ko wins ANA inspiration in California

Lydia Ko from New Zealand became the youngest player to win two LPGA major championships recently when she beat England’s Charley Hull by just one stroke.

Charley Hull played an impressive game, and was just two shots off the lead going into Sunday’s final round. Despite Hull’s best efforts, she finished at 11 under par to Ko’s 12 under, which tied her with South Korea’s Gee Chun.

Hull seemed optimistic with the results however, saying: “I can’t wait for the next tournament.

“I am happy because I played some great shots on the back nine. I have done myself proud today.”

Ko’s victory provided her with back-to-back majors, and she celebrated the victory by running into the ‘champions lake’ with her caddie. “It was always my dream to play on the LGPA,” she claimed after drying off. “For these amazing things to be happening is unbelievable, but it also motivates me to work harder.”

Scotland’s Catriona Matthew had a promising start and was six under at the end of the third day of the tournament. Unfortunately her challenge was derailed when she scored a costly eight at the par-three second hole. Ultimately Matthew finished in 32nd place.

The championship was closely contested throughout and promises that golf fans around the world have plenty to look forward to from these golfers in the coming months, especially during the upcoming US and British Women's Open.
